Hodson Preserve– A trip through Hodson Preserve and Rheault Easement in Camden MAP

Distance: 2.6 miles total out and back with the option for an additional .5 mile loop in the preserve

Location: Camden, Maine. Molyneaux Rd.

Parking: A pulloff with the preserve sign is obvious along the roadside. Maybe room for 4 cars.

Use: Good for hiking and maybe snowshoeing. Not for biking or x-country skiing.

Wildlife: Saw deer prints.

Wilderness Experience:  Despite being close to Camden, this trail sees little use since Camden Hills SP is so close. It was a quiet hike as we saw no one else there. Water is scarce, at least this summer. Bring your own

Trail: Mostly forest floor, roots, rocks, moss a couple bridges. Flat at first then a steady climb up to the top, but not very steep.

Summit: If you ascend after November you can get to an open summit with views of the blueberry fields and some of the hills around Camden.

Our Take:

(G): A short, not demanding hike through nice forests. I especially liked the section of rock walls. There’s no real payoff on the top though unless you can get there during the farm’s off season.
