Edgar M Tennis Preserve– a forest walk along the shore and through the fields of an old farm. Part of Island Heritage Trust

Distance: 2-3 miles total.

Location: Deer Isle, Maine. Off Sunshine Rd on Tennis Rd

Parking: A couple small parking areas provide space for maybe 5 cars. Short, steep, rough dirt hill leading up to parking. Low cars beware.

Use: Good for hiking, running, snowshoeing. Love trail running here.

Wildlife: Most likely to see seagulls, cormorants, heron along the shore. Be sure to check out Toothacher Ledges for seals.

Wilderness Experience:  Not far from the town of Deer Isle, but this is a small town. Sunshine Rd is usually fairly quiet. You’ll most likely hear boats though. Otherwise this will feel fairly remote.

Trail: Mostly soft forest floor covered in pine and spruce needles.  Expect a fair amount of roots and some rock, but nothing serious and no elevation to speak of.

Summit:  No summit. Just flat trail following the shore for the most part. Many excellent views of the shore!
