Blue Hill Mountain– a short hike up Blue Hill Mt of various lengths right in the village of Blue Hill Blue Hill Heritage Trust
Distance: varies from as little at 2 miles round trip to about 5 miles
Location: Blue Hill, Maine from Mountain Rd, Turkey Hill Rd or Main Street
Parking: Two places on Mountain Rd each with room for 6 or 8 cars one at Osgood Trailhead and the other at Hayes Trail. One parking lot on Turkey Farm Rd has room for about 2 or 3 cars. Parking in town gives access to Post Office Trail, but do not park at post office.
Use: Good for hiking or snow shoeing.
Wildlife: Not a real wildlife area. It’s very close to town.
Wilderness Experience: Blue Hill Mountain looms over the town of Blue Hill and is surrounded by roads. It is a very busy trail year round. The Becton Trail is more remote as it climbs the back side, so if you’re looking for less traffic and a more wilderness route, definitely try the Becton Trail
Trail: Wooded forest floor with some rocky footing closer to the top. Rugged rock/ledge trail once you get close to the summit.
Summit: The summit has great views to the south once you reach the top. If you descend the Hayes and South Face trails you will get even better views to the west over the fairgrounds and Mount Desert Island.
